ヤスピタの帰国前夜祭でシェアハウスの本質を知った夜

昨年秋から約１年間住んでくれた、ヤスミンとピーターのカップル、通称ヤスピタ。ヤスミンはイギリス・マンチェスター大学から神戸大学への１年間の留学期間が終わりとうとう帰国時期です。もちろんついてきた彼氏のピーターも一緒に帰国。彼らの帰国にあわせ、シェアハウスの住民みんなで前夜祭をやりました。

思い出がたくさんあるので写真選びも迷うくらい

まずはみんなでヤスピタに渡すプレゼントのアルバム作り。思い出の写真をたくさん貼って、みんなで寄せ書きも。素敵でしょ。作りながら、ほんとに彼らは愛されてたなーと。いや、彼らがこのハウスに運んできてくれたものの大きさを感じました。

事前におそろいのハウスTシャツを作ったりなんかも。最近はネットで画像をアップするだけですぐ作れるので便利ですね。

そして本日のメイン、ハウスの屋上で流しそうめん！

あまりに見事すぎる構造物が出来たので、流速が早すぎて食べるのが難しかったり（笑）。

きっとこの流しそうめんは水道筋で必ずやナンバーワン！おそらく神戸でも上位でしょう（笑）。
新品の雨樋をホームセンターで買ってきて、それを物干しフレームから吊り下げて固定。建築コンサルタント会社勤務のメンバーの施工管理力（？）とみんなの協力により、高度な建築物が出来ていました（笑）。

みんなにも、ヤスピタにも良い思い出になったはず。

シェアハウスはコミュニティだと実感した夜

仲の良いシェアハウスってほんとに良い世界だなと思います。
コロナのご時世、一人暮らしで誰とも話さず鬱になってしまう人もいると聞きます。でもこうやって同じ家族として暮らす仲間となら、日々の生活そのものが楽しいですね。

彼らの笑顔を見ていたら、運営者としては冥利に尽きるというか、このコミュニティを大事に作ってきた甲斐が少しはあったなぁと思いました。やっぱりシェアハウスはコミュニティだなと。

ヤスピタのおかで本当に楽しい一年間でした。ありがとうヤスピタ！！

住人同士の暮らしや、屋上・リビングといったイベントの舞台になる場所についてはこちらもどうぞ。

Yasmin and Peter — known around the house as “Yaspita” — lived with us for about a year starting last autumn. Yasmin came to Kobe University on a one-year exchange from the University of Manchester in the UK, and now that her exchange year is finally over, it’s time for her to head home. And of course her boyfriend Peter, who tagged along with her to Japan, is heading home too. To send them off, everyone in the share house threw a going-away festival the night before they left.

There were so many memories that it was hard to even pick which photos to use.

First, everyone got together to make a photo album as a gift for Yaspita — full of memory-filled photos, with everyone writing little messages throughout. Isn’t it lovely? Putting it together, I really felt how much they were loved — or rather, I felt the sheer size of what they’d brought into this house.

We even made matching house T-shirts ahead of time. These days you can just upload an image online and have them made in no time — so convenient.

And then, the main event of the day: nagashi somen (flowing noodles) on the rooftop of the house!

The setup turned out so impressively well-built that the noodles flowed too fast to actually catch and eat (lol).

This nagashi somen setup was surely the best in Suidosuji — possibly even top-tier in all of Kobe (lol).
We bought a brand new rain gutter at the home center and hung it from the laundry-drying frame to hold it in place. Thanks to the “construction management skills” (?) of one of our members who works at an architecture consulting firm, plus everyone’s teamwork, we ended up with a surprisingly sophisticated piece of architecture (lol).

After that, we moved to nearby Toga River for a fireworks display.
It was surely a great memory for everyone — and for Yaspita too.

We even sang along to some guitar playing.

What this night taught me: a share house is a community

A close-knit share house really is a wonderful thing. In these Covid times, I hear of people living alone who go for days without speaking to anyone and end up feeling down. But when you’re living day to day with people who feel like family, everyday life itself becomes something to enjoy.

Seeing their smiles, as someone running this place, I felt truly rewarded — like all the effort we’ve put into building this community was worth it, at least a little. A share house really is, above all, a community.
