🇬🇧 English translation follows the Japanese text below.

Residents asked for a place to work and study at home

With COVID pushing more people to work and study from home, we’d been hearing more and more requests for a dedicated space for that. In a share house, having great common areas really matters, so we decided to go for it for the residents!
(Of course, every room already has its own desk and chair 😅)

Turning the 5th-floor room next to the kitchen into a study room with a loft bed

So we renovated the room on the 5th floor next to the kitchen — previously used as a bedroom — into a study room.
We could have just bought a new desk and called it done, but we wanted to keep the room as open as possible while still having a bed on hand for emergencies, so we decided to build a tall loft bed instead. We made it to fit the room’s exact dimensions.

We bought a huge haul of 2x4 lumber from our local Kohnan hardware store (there was a bit of drama with that purchase, but that’s a story for another time 😂), then got building. For amateurs, I think it turned out pretty great! 😆

We shot a time-lapse video of the whole build, so take a look.
(It was filmed with a wide-angle lens so the room looks smaller than it is — the bed/desk is actually 2.2m wide.)
