12月25日、ハウスのみんなでクリスマスパーティをしました。今年のテーマは「全部手作り」。昼からキッチンに集まって、ごちそうもケーキもみんなで仕込みました。サンタ帽とトナカイの着ぐるみで、まずは乾杯!

メインは丸鶏のロースト

今年の主役は、オーブンでじっくり焼いた丸鶏のロースト。ブロッコリーとトマトを敷き詰めて、皮はパリッと中はジューシーに焼き上がりました。ハウスのキッチンはオーブンも調理道具もひと通り揃っているので、この規模のごちそうも作れちゃいます。

脇を固めるのは、炭火色に焼けたチキン、ベーコン巻き、ミックスベジタブル、キッシュ。テーブルに載りきらないくらいの品数になりました。

ケーキも手作り、しかも2つ

デザートは、チョコクリームのお菓子の家ケーキと、いちごのショートケーキ。どちらも住人の手作りです。お菓子の家は屋根がロールクッキー、窓はビスケット。「Merry Xmas」の文字入りです。

夜はゆるゆると

お腹いっぱいになったあとは、プレゼント交換したり、ゲームをしたり、なぜか青いアフロが登場したり。リビングの壁には歴代住人との写真が飾ってあって、こういう夜がまた1枚増えていくんだなあとしみじみ。

On December 25th, everyone at the house got together for our Christmas party. This year’s theme was “make everything from scratch.” We gathered in the kitchen from the afternoon and made all the food and cake ourselves. Santa hats and a reindeer costume made their appearance, and then it was time to raise a toast!

The main event: whole roast chicken

This year’s star dish was a whole chicken, slow-roasted in the oven with broccoli and tomatoes underneath. It came out with crispy skin and juicy meat inside. The house kitchen has a full set of cooking equipment, oven included, so we’re able to pull off a feast on this scale.

Rounding out the spread were charcoal-grilled chicken pieces, bacon rolls, mixed vegetables, and quiche—so many dishes that they barely fit on the table.

Two homemade cakes, no less

For dessert, we had a chocolate cream gingerbread-house-style cake and a strawberry shortcake—both made by residents. The “gingerbread house” cake had a roof made of rolled cookies and biscuit windows, all topped off with a “Merry Xmas” message.

A relaxed evening

Once everyone was full, we exchanged presents, played games, and somehow ended up with a blue afro wig making an appearance. The living room wall is covered in photos of residents past and present, and it was a nice moment to reflect on—another night, another photo to add to the wall.
