4月12日、春の恒例イベントとしてみんなでお花見ピクニックに行ってきました。今回はハウスの住人だけでなく、住人の友達も参加してくれて、いつもよりにぎやかな大所帯に。場所は神戸の街と海まで見渡せる公園です。ソメイヨシノは葉桜になりかけでしたが、八重桜がちょうど見頃で、木陰にシートを広げるには最高の陽気でした。

お弁当はみんなで手作り

この日のごはんは、朝からキッチンに集まってみんなで仕込んだ持ち寄りスタイル。重箱に詰めたのは、卵焼きに肉巻き、いなり寿司、サンドイッチ、そしてタルタルたっぷりのチキン南蛮。大きなボウルいっぱいのサラダも。広いキッチンと道具が揃っているシェアハウスならでは、の光景かもしれません。

外で食べるごはんはそれだけで美味しいのに、自分たちで作ったとなればなおさら。あっという間になくなりました。

腹ごしらえのあとは、広場でひと遊び

お腹が満たされたら、広場に移動して身体を動かす時間。フィンランド生まれの木製ピン倒しゲーム「モルック」は、シンプルなのに白熱して大盛り上がり。隣ではグローブを持ち込んでキャッチボール組も。六甲の山を眺めながらの外遊びは気持ちよかった〜。

国も言葉も違う仲間と、同じシートの上で

The Headquarters Kobeには日本人だけでなく世界のいろいろな国から住人が集まっています。この日も日本語と英語が飛び交いながら、食べて、遊んで、のんびりして。住人の友達がふらっと合流できるオープンな空気も、うちのハウスらしさかもしれません。「帰ったら誰かがいる」だけでなく、「休みの日に一緒に出かける誰かがいる」のもシェアハウス暮らしの良いところだなと改めて感じた一日でした。

次のイベントは屋上BBQ？

On April 12th, we headed out for our seasonal cherry blossom picnic — a spring tradition here at the house. This time it wasn’t just housemates, but their friends too, so we ended up as a bigger, livelier crowd than usual. We picked a park with sweeping views over the city and out to the sea. The Somei Yoshino were just starting to turn leafy, but the double-flowered cherries (yaezakura) were right at their peak, and the weather was perfect for spreading out a picnic sheet in the shade.

A potluck lunch, made from scratch together

Everyone gathered in the kitchen that morning to cook up a potluck spread. The lacquer boxes ended up packed with tamagoyaki, meat rolls, inari sushi, sandwiches, and chicken nanban smothered in tartar sauce, plus a big bowl of salad on the side. Having a spacious kitchen and a full set of cookware on hand is one of the nice perks of share house life.

Food always tastes better outside, and it’s even better when you made it yourself — the whole spread disappeared in no time.

After lunch, some games on the lawn

Once everyone was full, we moved over to the open lawn to get moving a bit. Mölkky, the Finnish wooden skittles game, is simple but somehow always gets surprisingly competitive. Off to the side, another group brought gloves for a round of catch. Playing outside with a view of Mount Rokko in the background felt amazing.

Different countries, different languages, same picnic sheet

The Headquarters Kobe is home to residents from all over the world, not just Japan, and this day was no exception — Japanese and English mixed together as everyone ate, played, and relaxed. The easygoing vibe that lets a housemate’s friend just casually join in might be part of what makes our house what it is. It was a day that reminded us of something great about share house living: it’s not just having someone around when you get home, it’s having people to go out and do things with on your days off too.
